Mantua community Revitalization Project

The mantua community improvement committee (mcic) created the mantua neighborhood special service district(nssd) project in january 2002 to attract commercial investors and homebuyers to mantua, an area currently undergoing significant revitalization.

In less than a year, the nssd ha s literally changed the physical look of mantua by collecting litter, cleaning trash-strewn vacant lots and cutting down overgrown patches of weeds. this has helped to enhance the sense of community and empowerment of the resident.

As you know, historic mantua is within walking distance of the ohiladelphia zoo, university of pennsylvania, kelly and west river drives, art museum, drexel university, and downtown philadelphia. such a strategic spot has made mantua a desirable location for professionals, students, and businesses.

The NSSD project employs young men from the community who not only clean the streets, but also provide a measure of leadership and security from 31st to 40th streets east and west, and between spring garden street and mjantua avenue north and south.

To expand this important project to include the areas south tomarket street and west to 40th, the nssd is seeking toraise$1 million in order to fund te workers, equipment, and other materials needed for a year. (Budget attached.)

Also attached is the narrative for this project which details expectations and outcomes.

If your schedule permits, i would consider it an honor to have you come to our newly refurbished headquarters at 619 N.35th street (One mantua plaza) to tour the facility and the surrounding area so you can witnessfirst hand the possibilities of this wonderful community.
